Nasty pasty making and cook challenges for Half Term at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum
Whilst the nation celebrates with good food, this half term holiday it is Gruesome Grub that is on the menu at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport, Hampshire where children can make their own joke nasty pasties. On Thursday 7 June from 11am -3pm, families can dress up as cockroaches, find out when submariners eat “elephants’ footprints” and “babies’ heads” and about the nasty pasty trick they played on new submariners. This full on foodie day also includes a head to head cook off challenge between professional chef, Sarah Clements and local Gosport chef Kevin Meacham from the Anglesey Hotel in Alverstoke. After the gruesome food challenges, younger visitors can decorate cup cakes and make nasty pasties.
Gruesome Grub and the Horrible Science of Submarines exhibition are free with a valid museum ticket. The exhibition is open every day throughout the half term holidays and is split into 5 sections, each exploring the horrible and scary slice of submarine life. Sammie Sardine, a young “newbie” submariner takes you through as he finds out just how smelly submariners were, the ghastly food they ate and how sub loos could turn into poo fountains. Children can also dress up as cockroaches. A visit to the Submarine Museum includes tours of our submarines led by a submariner who can tell first-hand what life was like to live under the sea.
