Set in the heart of beautiful countryside, the 16th century Bear & Ragged Staff prides itself on serving excellent food in comfortable, pleasant surroundings. This privately operated country pub uses fresh local produce wherever possible, meeting suppliers to ensure top quality ingredients for dishes that are truly homemade, cooked from scratch with the pride and passion needed to produce quality food, served by friendly efficient staff. This has been recognised recently by being awarded the Tourism South East Hampshire Hospitality Quality Assured Award along with their Local Produce Award, and The Bear and Ragged Staff was a finalist in the 2011 Hampshire Life Pub of The Year Award.

The pub is supplied by acclaimed producers including handmade Loosehanger and Lyburn farmhouse cheeses, delicious Kimbridge trout caught within a mile of the pub, fresh bread from Stainers Bakery in Bishops Waltham, speciality ice cream from New Forest Ice Cream and still and sparkling water from New Forest Water. Fresh game is sourced locally in season, and best quality meat from H & H Caterers who are supplied by selected producers in Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset. Printed menus, changed every season, with daily specials written up on chalkboards help diners to choose from the tempting range of home cooked food. Pudding lovers are spoilt for choice with up to 12 different homemade puddings just waiting to be sampled, and coffee drinkers are equally spoilt for choice with a range of ‘fresh bean to cup’ coffees on offer such as espresso, regular, latte, cappuccino and also hot chocolate.

Refurbished in May 2010 this exceptional country pub has a light but cosy homely feel, with stylish soft furnishings adding to the relaxed ambience without losing the evocative traditional feel. During the winter months, the flickering flames of the wood burning stove and a traditional open log fire keep the pub warm and cosy, while artwork and bric-a-brac tell the story of traditional local industries and institutions. Summer customers enjoy the colour of the seasonally planted gardens and window boxes.
