Hampshire Water Festival comes to Staunton Country Park
7th April 2011
Hampshire Water Festival is set to enjoy its third year at Staunton Country Park, sited just north of Havant. The FREE event takes place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July and promises the very best of family entertainment with a programme that explores one of our vital resources – water. The ornamental farm, glasshouses and gardens of Staunton Country Park are also open to visitors at half price over the weekend.
The parkland will be filled with exhibits for water management and conservation with ecological organisations. Food lovers will enjoy the opportunity to taste and buy local produce, and there will be a weekend programme of live entertainment to enjoy with music from local choirs and professional acts.
Whilst Hampshire Water Festival is set to deliver plenty of fun, there is a more serious message to deliver at the event – the awareness that we need to consider the pressures our every day life places on Hampshire’s water environment – as well as the planet’s water resources.
Education is high on the agenda with local schools running the water theme through their summer curriculum. Over the weekend, schools will be showcasing their work and projects and will be supported by staff from Portsmouth Water who always bring fun experiments along. The Company is committed to encouraging everyone to be more water efficient and fund an Education officer at Staunton who can provide hands-on guided sessions for schools groups all year.
Says Organiser Lulu Bowerman. “ We are really excited about this year’s Water Festival which is promising to be an excellent weekend of fun filled activities for all the family with a variety of things to do such as pond dipping, make a rain gauge and angling– and entrance is free! The Hampshire Water Festival gives people the chance to learn all about water in a relaxed and enjoyable environment and to have a great day out at the same time.”
The event takes place between 10am and 5pm on Saturday 16th July and Sunday 17th July 2011.
The 2010 Hampshire Water Festival is being organised and supported by Havant Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Staunton Country Park, Ecover, Portsmouth Water Company and the local branch of Friends of the Earth
