Some of Hampshire’s best attractions are its hidden gems, offering delightful surprises and fascinating insights to the visitors who seek them out. A history of benevolence can be discovered at the peaceful Hospital of St Cross in Winchester, while Basing House reveals centuries of grandeur interspersed with bloody battles and civil war.

Queen Elizabeth Country Park offers sports activities, exploration and nature on the beautiful South Downs and Southampton City Art Gallery, though on a smaller scale, has art collections rivalling some of the finest in Europe. Hampshire also has some noteworthy mills, including Bursledon Windmill, the only working windmill in the county, and Whitchurch Silk Mill which weaves silk on historic looms for interiors, fashion and theatrical costumes.
