Light Night

A Lantern Parade and a bus tour will guide you around the city, to events that include spooky encounters at New Theatre Royal and City Museum, unique light shows at the King’s Theatre and Southsea Castle. Story Telling for young ones at the City Library, some bright new young artists at Art Space and a family craft day at Gunwharf Quays.

City Library:
From 3.00pm Story telling for young ones led by Michael O’Leary.
5.00pm. Young people can gather up Lanterns made by Dot To Dot and join a parade around the Guildhall Square
The New Theatre Royal. ‘’Taking Time’’ 4.00pm/5.00pm/6.00pm. A strange and spooky tour of the theatre’s stairs, passages and hidden corners. What’s in this cupboard? Who’s this coming down the stairs? What’s behind there? Dare you open the door? Created and performed by a group of young people, with Dot to Dot, Unexpected Opera and the New Theatre Royal.

Numbers for each tour are limited so please book in advance on 023 9264 9000. Each tour is FREE and will last approx 30 mins.

7.30pm The Unexpected Opera present Orpheus Down Under.
(Normal theatre prices apply)

Art Space
6.30-8.30pm 15 young artists from Art Space open their studios and talk to visitors; a unique opportunity to enjoy a diverse range of artwork.

Southsea Castle
6.00pm- 8.00pm. A spooky tour of the Castle, with a mysterious ‘Light house Keeper’

Portsmouth City Museum.
6.00pm – 8.00pm. Guided tours of the collections with Dark Encounters throwing new light on some of the more mysterious objects.

Gunwharf Quays.
All day until 4.30pm. A family craft event with a craft specialist from The Making.

Kino Foundation.
7.00pm till late. Audio Visual and performing events around Orpheus in the Underworld in the mysterious Round Tower, Square Tower, arches, tunnels and walkways adjacent to Broad Street.

The Kings Theatre.
Dark onwards.
The Kings Theatre will link in with the City's maritime heritage by making use of the theatre tower as a light house. A series of images will be beamed out of the 8 upper windows of the tower, changing colour to reflect the changing nature of the art being performed inside the theatre.

This is a free event, however there are additional charge for Orpheus Down Under at the New Theatre Royal. £9.00 - £13.00 ( £6.00 - £11.00 Concessions)

Time: Early evening till late with Gunwharf Quays running through the day.
