The apartment is conveniently situated for the town's amenities which are all in walking distance. The apartment is 1st floor behind the Grade Listed Butts House dating back to 1730; overlooking the open ground known as The Butts.
The main line train station London Waterloo to Alton takes an hour, with local bus routes to Farnham, Guildford, Winchester and Basingstoke stopping on the other side of The Butts, makes leaving the car so easy. The apartment offers comfort with convenience, the independence of self-catering accommodation and yet an easy walk to all the eateries in Alton.
The first floor accommodation comprises an open plan apartment with king size 6' bed or twin beds, en suite with shower, compact kitchen and dining area seating up to 6, fully equipped for catering and eating. There is a flat screen TV with freeview and DVD player. There is a 2nd bedroom which is linked to the apartment accessed by a staircase to the ground floor which is made available to guests on request.
This apartment is ideal for business people, friends and family visiting, or touring the south. Within walking distance is Jane Austen's House, Chawton House Library, South Downs National Park, Hangers Way and St Swithen's Way walk, the steam train Watercress Line with Thomas the Tank Engine weekends, the Curtis Museum and Allen Gallery, St Lawrence's Church with the scars of the Battle of Alton (last civil war battle), parks and gardens which have skate-board ramps, the local sports centre with indoor swimming pool, gym and fun ball area for under-8s.
Bird World, Alice Holt Forestry Commission Park, Go-Ape assault course and Bike Hire, Lasham Gliding Club, Queen Elizabeth Country Park with 'off road' bike tracks, Legoland, In-tech science musueum, Paulton's Park theme park and Thorpe Park theme park, Goodwood House and race course, Winchester Cathedral and historic town, National Trust 'Hinton Ampner' and 'The Vine' are all within 45 minutes' drive.
Butts House is situated in a Conservation Area. The house itself was built in 1730 and was the last house in the Parish of Alton. From 1754-1758 the house was known as 'The Sign of the Star' public house and then was used as 'The Pest House' as it was so isolated. It was surrounded by hop fields that supplied the breweries of Alton.
