The Bunney is in an idyllic location set in the middle of Butlocks Heath village, 'Jewel of the Southern Parishes' and situated in a peaceful cul-de-sac. It is a mid-terraced property, warm, comfortable, well equipped with plenty of space to relax and unwind. It makes an ideal location for exploring the local villages, major cities, shopping centres, family attractions and for using our local Sailing & Yacht Clubs
Butlocks Heath Village hosts a variety of amenities, comprising of a general store and two pubs with an excellent selection of beverages and each have their own gardens. The village also offers a number of interesting walks leading through ancient woodland, 'The Bunney', and also through Priors Hill Copse to the reservoir.
Beautiful countryside walks surround the area with links to The Stawberry Trail, Hamble Rail Trail and The Solent Way. Cycling in the area is enhanced by visiting the Royal Victoria Country Park and cycling through its 200 acres of beautiful woodland and open areas. Also by making use of the National Cycle Network Route 2.
Our visitors see The Bunney as a ‘home from home’ and are surprised as to what our location has to offer and we are ”Twenty minutes to everything…”
Just 15 minutes away is the site of the ‘quarter mile long’ Royal Victoria Military Hospital (demolished 1966) which is now the beautiful 200 acre Royal Victoria Country Park (opened 1980), one of the most scenic and delightful areas of South Hampshire. It original features are the Royal Chapel (Heritage Visitor Centre) and YMCA building (the Cedars tea room with the Empire and Nightingale function rooms). Additions since opening are the Royal Victoria Railway (miniature) from Chapel Road Station. There is the Sensory garden, children’s play and disabled play areas. There are also BBQ sites for hire. It is an ideal place to spend the day visiting or for a family picnic, relaxing and playing games.
The Chapel is open for a guided tour which takes in the Chapel Hall Exhibition and includes the climb of 166 steps to the top of its 150’ tower. Take in the panoramic views over the Country Park, Netley Hound and Hamble-le-Rice. Also across to Southampton Water, viewing the shipping with Hythe and Fawley (oil refinery) on the opposite shore.
During the holidays, children can be booked into the Acorn Education Facility and learn all about the natural plant and wildlife within the Country Park.
Famous visitors at the hospital included; Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, Florence Nightingale (Lady of the lamp) and SIr Almroth Wright was (Professor of Pathology). Broadcast in the Centenary year of the publication of Lewis Carroll's novel was Jonathan Miller's television adaptation of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ (BBC film 1966).
The Bunney borders onto the City of Southampton and we are close to the Southampton Water which receives shipping from around the world at the Southampton Docks, ‘Gateway to the World’, arriving at the new Ocean Terminal. There is also Town Quay which receives local Ferries and the Hydrofoil.
