Fabulous food in a fabulous building. I especially enjoyed the goats cheese starter

September 2023

Our first visit in years. The former somewhat homespun ambience has changed to a high-end gastropub, with prices to match. Whilst our food was extremely well cooked and presented, it was overpriced. Service was extremely attentive whilst we were the only diners, then when it began to fill up we felt forgotten and neglected. So on balance, unlikely that we will return.

July 2023

Very friendly and lucky to have as your local pub

April 2022

Wonderful food and very lovely friendly staff. Highly recommend.

February 2022

Yes we visited in November , what a lovely welcome when we enquired about if we could take our dog in, We was welcomed by a lovely lady not sure of her name think it was Keran , The atmosphere was fantastic with the little snug pub with a coal fire and the food was to die for, highly recommend proper la carte food!! Well done guys I give you 5 stars !! Will be back from Warrington x

November 2021

Excellent meal and host - new owners and definitely worth a visit or two

November 2021

We did visit for an evening meal. The menu was much more limited than we expected - Although the food was v good - suspect this is due to an imminent management change.

Excellent food and friendly service. Definitely recommend!

July 2021

check before visiting as not open much.

A big, bright and spacious free house serving a good selection of well-kept real ales, wines and spirits. A popular haunt for the locals, who gather for the notorious daily carvery.  There’s a main menu with all the usual dishes, or pick from the Specials Board which showcases local produce.

Booked to eat here on a Thursday night and it was amazingly quiet for some reason. Good food and good service in a nice clean environment.

August 2020

We had an evening meal here including children. The food was very good and the staff most welcoming - we felt sorry that everything was so well prepared for safe distancing and so few people there. There was plenty of room for evceryone.

We had a delicious meal during our stay on a Monday

October 2023

We had a disappointing meal. The meat dishes were good but the vegetarian options lacked flavour. However having complained about the standard of the food the staff were quick to remove the charge for the dishes from the final bill.

August 2023

Very friendly helpful staff and delicious food. Highly recommend the steak pie!

August 2023

Brilliant olde world pub with loads of character. Had a lovely meal on the patio recently Top marks.

July 2023

Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday evening, we sat outside in the patio area, there are also tables on the lawn. Good main courses, friendly and efficient service from young chap who I think is the Manager. I am not vegan but tried the. ‘Vegan cherry tart’ which was a bit disappointing as it was a quite dry, may have been better warm. Same goes for the waffle my husband had, expected it to be warm. Would visit again, but maybe give dessert a miss.

June 2023

The food was excellent - the burger in particular was moist, succulent and very tasty! There was also a good selection of pale ales.

June 2023

Our first visit for lunch was very enjoyable. Food was good and the service friendly and attentive. Bit surprised how quiet it was but maybe Tuesdays are slow days. Will certainly go back on our next holiday.

October 2021

Great pub food & good friendly service.

October 2021

Very friendly, lovely food would recommend. If large party book early

September 2021

We visited for an evening meal - a party of 8 (3 of whom were disabled to varying degrees) and two dogs. We sat on the patio. Staff, beverages and food superb! Would visit again without a moments hesitation - has our full recommendation.

August 2021

July 2021

Recommend Sunday lunch, very good. Lovely pub ,friendly staff.

October 2020

Excellent food and very friendly stuff. Good selection of beers and ciders.

October 2019

Disappointed with the food and the tables were very cramped.

September 2019

The food was good and staff friendly but there were no high chairs available for my 2 year old grandson

June 2019

As far as we're concerned, this is the best pub in the Forest. A really snug, typical and 'pubby' pub with good food, good staff and good beer! Definetely worth a visit!

April 2019

Excellent service, food plentiful, lots of choice on menu and very tasty. Highly recommended

April 2019

Very friendly. Food was excellent, sorry to have missed Friday Pie night, hopefully it will still be on when we return

The Ferryman

The Ferryman is a stylish country pub situated on the far side of Lymington's harbour, on the edge of the New Forest, with a good choice of well-priced food served from either a fixed priced lunchtime menu or a la carte. A 2 minute walk from Island Point. Excellent food (especially Sunday lunch) and a warm welcome from Rob, the landlord.

November 2023

Excellent food and very friendly staff

September 2021

We stayed in the Lymington area during August, and enjoyed our visits to the Ferryman. A couple of excellent meals, along with numerous visits for the odd G&T! Staff extremely friendly and helpful.

August 2018

Do not go there if you have to be somewhere else to bewithin the hour as the service was very very slow (and that was on a quiet day). However, all off the staff were very friendly, and very helpful.

June 2018

A lovely bar and a welcomed stop for refreshments following our IOW ferry trip.

April 2017

East End Arms
(2 miles)

(16)

A really friendly pub bought by John Illsley, bass guitarist of Dire Straits in 1990. It’s still very much a local pub to pop in for a drink with the villagers. The pub wins well deserved rave reviews for its superb food, well-kept ales, wines and lovely staff.

We enjoyed a wonderful Sunday roast for 8 people and 4 dogs in the tent in the garden of the East End Arms. The staff were warm and engaging and the food was delicious and beautifully presented! Whilst on the pricey side, I would highly recommend a visit to the east end arms.

April 2024

Very good food and pleasant ambience.

July 2023

Great pub - very friendly staff and good selection of ales and wines by the glass. The wine always tasted as though it came from a recently opened bottle. We didn't eat there but have spoken to someone who had an 'exceptional' meal recently. Only one downside - the locals (whose pub it is after all) do like to make themselves heard!

September 2022

Beautiful food and great atmosphere- slightly pricey but well worth it.

August 2022

Lovely pub with good food and if you like donkeys, you will be well away. They congregate outside the pub and are quite friendly.

March 2022

Excellent food and service well worth a visit

September 2021

Very disappointed that this pub in the forest does not allow dogs inside. We wanted to book at birthday meal with family, we were on holiday from Brighton, but as we had two dogs we could only sit outside under the tent which is not want you want to do on an evening in October.

October 2020

Sat outside. Quite expensive for what we got. Waitress unable to say what specials came with and ended up with just a fish and salad garnish! Fish bit overcooked. So maybe other non fish meals are better but didn't feel inclined to go back even though 10 mins walk from cottage.

September 2020

Enjjoyed a really excellent evening meal here. Good service, good atmosphere.

August 2020

Excellent food provided , good service and a log fire.

November 2019

During our 2 week stay we dined at the East End Arms four times. Every meal was excellent, the menu seemed to vary a little each time which I assume was due to what fish or meat was locally available. The staff in the restaurant were friendly. Nice choice of wines.

September 2019

Went in to book a table for a Sunday evening, but was told that they did not serve food on a Sunday evening, although their website seemed to think they did! The barmaid was talking to a customer when I first went in. The customer left the bar area to return to his seat and instead of her asking me what I wanted, decided to ignore me. Not very good customer service! I had to say excuse me and then she looked shocked that I was there! I wanted to give no stars, but had to pick one star!

May 2019

Really good pub with pricing along metropolitan 'gastropub' lines - backed up by the quality of the food and surroundings. The weather for our stay was perfect so we could sit in the garden with our dog for our meals. On a rainy day it wouldn't have been so comfortable as the bar (the only other places dogs are allowed) is only tiny.

July 2018

Great lunchtime treat with reasonable kids menu and lovely grown up food. Home made ice cream went down very well too.

November 2017

Always excellent choice and calibre of food each time we have visited.

July 2017

Friendly pub, always busy. Not so good if you have a dog - they are welcome but space is limited. Luckily we had good weather & sat in the garden. The food was excellent & staff friendly.

Visited on a damp day on my own, interesting museum and a good Art Gallery within the same building. Very nice and well staffed cafe area with a good selection of tasty food and nice coffee.

October 2023

Had a nice meal here upon arrival in Lymington. Very pleasant helpful staff. Also, a very nice gift shop, and Tourist Information centre.

October 2023

Brilliant Museum and the cafe is excellent

September 2023

Excellent museum that tells the story of the town and local area and also has space for changing exhibitions. Also acts as the local visitor info centre and has plenty of information about things to do in the area. There's also a nice gift shop and super little cafe.

September 2023

Great little museum. Very informative about the history of the area and even our teenagers enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit.

August 2022

A bit of a hidden gem really, very good and informative displays in a well laid out and spacious environment, we particularly liked the community involvement with a group of local children very actively enjoying the surroundings, the coffee shop and the engaging and helpful staff. If anything the museum could sell itself to the public better - we nearly didn't go in as there was little to explain what was inside other than the art galleries

May 2022

Wonderful art exhibition and everyone was very helpful. Great cafe and recommend the coffee and biscuits!

October 2021

Well worth spending a morning learning about the history of Lymington and the wider New Forest area. There is always an interesting pop up exhibition too. The cafe is great and serves lovely home made food.

October 2021

Well worth a visit. Tasty food and good service.

October 2021

Very interesting museum and when we visited there was an art exhibition which was an added bonus.

June 2021

Have visited the museum previously and found it interesting, having grown up locally. Now has an excellent coffee shop.

September 2020

We had a nice coffee on terrace of their café - didn't get a chance to visit Museum itself, but found some great cards + gifts in shop!

August 2023

Milford on Sea is a very quintessential English village which has retained all its charm. The seafront is a delight to stroll along and The Needles Eye Cafe produces lovely coffee and lunches which is well worth a visit. A walk around Sturt Pond is also enjoyable and through to the village.

June 2023

Lovely quiet location for a beach walk. Great for watching the sea and waves without the crowds.

June 2023

Brilliant beach.

September 2022

Beautiful beach with views to The Isle of Wight. Good for swimming, picnics and walking. Very good car parking and public toilets. Lots of good places to eat and drink either next to the beach or in the village, a short walk away

July 2022

A proper gem. Great location for the new forest. The village is great and was only a short walk from our house. Not too busy or full of holiday makers. We will be back.

October 2021

One of my favourite places

July 2021

Good place to go if you have a buggy or wheelchair as there is a tarmac path along the top of the cliffs with great views of the Needles, plenty of parking and a kiosk serving refreshments.

September 2020

Lovely village with adequate shops on a very pretty green.

September 2019

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

June 2019

Love Milford on Sea so old fashioned hasn't changed much since I use go as a child in the 1960/70s

April 2019

great walking area, small cafe-the needles, children climbing play park- crashing waves over stoned beach

March 2019

Barton on Sea
(8 miles)

(2)

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.

Highcliffe Beach
Highcliffe Beach
(9 miles)

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.

To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

April 2024

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the children and dog in particular. Sadly wet conditions made it difficult for us to walk straight onto the forest - it was too boggy. However we found a local enclosure to walk in which was lovely. The family want to go back there!

September 2023

Overall spotless just a few cobwebs in the flowers. We only noticed because one of the family absolutely hates them.

August 2023

Aside from the comments above we very much enjoyed our stay and the cottage was nice and clean upon our arrival, as was the pool. The coffee, tea, milk and biscuits provided were a nice, thoughtful touch, and the dishwasher tablets, hand towels and soap were also very helpful.

August 2023

We love this location.

July 2023

This was our sixth stay at Old Farm Cottage. As always, it was brilliant in every way. I also think it represents great value for money. The reason I put "good" rather than "excellent" for standard of equipment is because of the comments above. But these are incredibly minor points, and really the standard of equipment is somewhere between good and excellent. We really appreciated the new mattresses. The beds were super comfortable! All in all, we had a very enjoyable and restful holiday.

February 2023

Old Farm Cottage was lovely and warm and comfortable during a very cold spell and in a lovely quiet position on the edge of the forest but near to everywhere we wanted to visit. We would recommend The Lighthouse restaurant on the beach at Milford-on-Sea.

May 2022

An amazing week, once again. Thank you so much! We absolutely love it here. We had such a good week playing in the pool everyday as the weather was perfect. It is a very special place for us and we look forward to coming back.

We really love this house. It's our third visit. We saw lots of donkeys and baby donkeys. There were ponies and horses everywhere. There are lots of good restaurants close by and the beaches are amazing.

August 2021

We had a wonderful holiday.

August 2020

We had a really lovely time at the cottage. The main problem we had was having to cook all the meals as takeaway services were very limited and expensive and due to Covid we couldn’t eat out any where we all enjoyed the swimming pool. We will definitely return another year. Just a couple of points to note We specifically asked if there was a cot provided and were told there wasn’t so my daughter went to the expense of purchasing one only to find there was one provided after all The property details stated there was parking for up to 2 cars. We took 3 and there was still room for another so you may want to amend that

August 2020

We really enjoyed our stay and your professional and pleasant way of communicating. Even in times of corona we have felt completely at ease, chapeau! Thank you.

July 2020

Great location and well heated pool. Lack of WiFi was relaxing!

September 2019

Had a lovely time

August 2019

We had a lovely time, really enjoyed our stay, very well equipped kitchen, great pool, lovely location with garden that gives you privacy.

June 2019

The location was wonderful, and close to so many places of interest. The pool was heated to a lovely temperature and the pool area and loungers were excellent. The property was well equipped and aside from the areas listed above we would only have good things to say about it

January 2019

We had a really happy Christmas with a daughter living nearby. One of the nicest and best equipped cottage we have ever taken

November 2018

Had a excellent stay in a wonderful located cottage, just like to add we had a wasp infection in bedroom wall but after calling the helpline this was swiftly sorted the next morning . Would use this cottage again, but earlier in the year so we could benefit the swimming pool

August 2018

We loved our stay, as always. Picture box, in the forest, with a pool. Perfection. Such a special place. Thank you.

July 2018

Cottage was very comfortable and the pool was a massive bonus with the good weather.

April 2018

Excellent stay, despite the weather! Cottage was great and location couldn't have been better. Will be coming back!

December 2017

Loved it - will be back!

November 2017

We had a super week in this cottage. The house is exactly what we were looking for in terms of location, good facilities, warm and cosy, nice enclosed garden with swing for the children, plenty of parking, hosepipe to clean the dog (!), lovely clean/modern bathrooms.

September 2017

The new loungers were comfortable. A perfect get away from it all holiday

August 2017

we did enjoy our stay - the locals were friendly and the position convenient for what we wanted to do.

July 2017

As always, we really enjoyed our stay at Old Farm Cottage. The location couldn't be better; having our own swimming pool is fantastic; it's extremely comfortable and well equipped. It was a truly relaxing holiday. Just wonderful.

June 2017

Wonderful location. Cottage v well equipped and the pool is a big bonus! This was our third stay and we would love to come back again in the future

May 2017

We all enjoyed our stay very much.

May 2017

A beautifully located peaceful cottage. Ideal for a family holiday of all generations from young children ( who loved the garden and ponies ) to grandparents.

January 2017

We enjoy being as close as possible to Mudeford but were not disappointed with this wonderful location in the forest and near to Lymington.

November 2016

Amazing position opening onto Forest. Good play equipment in garden. Lovely kitchen. Comfortable and cosy. Ideal for all ages, we were a family group of four generations, ages 4 months to 84.

September 2015

This was our 2nd stay here. It's a lovely property in a fantastic location on a very quiet lane overlooking the heathland and forest. The cottage was spotlessly clean and is nice and spacious, and the outdoor pool is a bonus (although can be a bit chilly so I would recommend little ones wear wetsuits unless the weather is hot!). Short drive to Beaulieu and Lymington for restaurants, shops and IOW ferry. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

May 2015

The cottage was a wonderful home from home offering a completely relaxing break from everyday life. The location on the edge of the forest is wonderful.
