What’s particularly lovely about this charming setting is the way it blends effortlessly into its beautiful New Forest surroundings; ponies, donkeys, ducks and deer all often seen wandering freely along the honeysuckle byways.
Visitors to Brockenhurst adore its gentle pace and rustic charm, from its picturesque ‘watersplash’ ford to its olde-worlde inns, this really is one of the most enchanting corners of the New Forest.
The history of Brockenhurst can be traced back as far as the Bronze Age burial mounds that bespeckle the surrounding heathland. What today is the largest village in the New Forest used to amount to four modest Saxon manors which fell between the boundaries of William the Conqueror’s vast hunting ground.
One of the village’s most venerated residents stands rooted in the graveyard of St Nicholas' Church; a mighty yew tree, believed to have cast its shade for a thousand years or more, the oldest tree in the forest. Also keep an eye out for the grave of Harry ‘Brusher’ Mills, the legendary New Forest snake-catcher, hermit, and authority on countryside lore.
The village has upheld its colourful and longstanding tradition of fetes and festivals, playing host to the annual New Forest and Hampshire County Show which runs for three days during July.

There is a major problem with staying at Homelands, which is going home! This home has been so tastefully and thoughtfully decorated, fitted and kitted out, it has been a privilege to stay here. I mean which other holiday let gives a Dyson fan, Sonos sound system, curved Samsung TV with sound bar etc. But the owners have some exquisite taste. the tiles in the cloakroom and bathrooms, the furniture in the main living room-our home will seem quite second rate when we go back! Lighting is obviously a passion of thee owners - stunning. We enjoyed the landscaped garden and even in October having teat and crumpets in the ante afternoon sun. Train noise absolutely not an issue. The Village hall was closed because of CoVid, so can't common if noise at night would be an issue. Beds amazingly comfy and great rain showers, What's not to like. OK if pushed the oven controls are not intuitive but the instructions work! We'll be back!!

Britannia Thai is a fantastic little restaurant within brockenhurst village. They offer both dine in and takeaway lunch and dinner services. The welcome on entering the restaurant is warm and genuine. The standard of food they provide is excellent and portion sizing is very generous. We can highly recommend the chicken satay and chicken Pad Thai noodles. Overall they provide fantastic value food. Definitely not to be missed when in brockenhurst.

We went to this pub for the Sunday Roast which was a great disappointment and not cheap. The vegetables were virtually inedible, a knife would not cut through them and the green beans had barely seen the water. The waiter knew nothing about the wines, there was no atmosphere and the service not good. When we complained they offered us more vegetables which we declined and eventually they deducted 20% off the main meals.

This was a VERY disappointing evening out. Having looked at the menu before we went some of us wanted pizza.......when we arrived the pizza oven was broken so no pizza available. In addition the 2 starters on the kids menu were garlic bread and vegetable sticks - with no pizza oven there was no garlic bread so vegetables the only option. We got put at a table that was wobbly so had to move. The cesar salad was also poor - dry chicken and missing several elements you would normally expect for a cesar salad. All in all an expensive, disappointing evening. We would not return if in the area again.

It was our first visit to this venue since the name change. The menu appeared a little more upmarket, unfortunately the service wasn't. They took our credit card when taking our order, but when it came to paying our bill we were told they were busy and we had to find the waiter who took it. In all it took something like 30 minutes trying to pay our bill, not the best way to finish an evening with 3 small children wanting their beds.

Nice restaurant, very nicely decorated, good ambiance and service. We went for a dinner with our kids (3). The food kids menu, was perfect, my wife and daughter order the trout and duck both very good dishes. I ordered the rib eye, the menu says it has 35 days of maturing. The quality was bad, I would even doubt it was steak it almost looked like processed meet. My recommendation stick to the other dishes on the menu and avoid the steak selection. The rest of the experience was very positive.

An established family business in Brockenhurst, Cyclexperience has bicycles and electric bikes available to buy for all levels and skill sets, with hire centres nearby. They also host a number of competitive mountain bike events and off road adventure races both locally and nationally for more competitive cyclists, not to mention workshops at their stores to keep your bike in good health.
Very helpful staff. The whole booking experience was so easy and the bike riding in the forest was truly a special memory we will treasure. My legs were so worn out the following day I went for an electric bike which was awesome!

We had a fantastic day, the weather was good, the bikes were good, the maps were good, the signposting was good. We spent 6 hours out and about and 75% was off road, those bits on road were quiet. Would recommend this to everyone as there were routes suitable for all abilities.

We are experienced riders and my daughter and I booked In advance to go on a 2 hr hack . It was easy to arrange Via email with Trudy the owner beforehand . We filled out a registration form which asked about our riding ability on arrival and then We were off . We had two sensible horses and our guide Hannah was lovely . We thoroughly enjoyed our hack through some beautiful countryside and saw lots of ponies and foals . Great afternoon Thankyou Ford farm stables , we will be back I’m sure .

A beautiful shingle beach with pretty painted beach huts, plenty of parking, and excellent coastal walks along Hurst spit to Hurst Castle with clear views of the Isle of Wight and needles. The superb Raft Rocks Restaurant is worth a visit with its Art deco style and roof terrace. You can also walk across the wildlife marshes to Keyhaven harbour and (in season) take the boat to Hurst Castle or the Isle of Wight.
Lovely sea walk within 15 minutes of the cottage.

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.
A pleasant walk along the cliff top and along the beach. There was less cliff than last time we went to the New Forest.

Highcliffe Beach

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.
To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

A picturesque, tree-lined beach of shingle, and sand at low tide. Good facilities on the cliff top including an excellent tea room, public toilets, baby change and a children’s play area in the Castle gardens. Plenty of parking and sloping access down to the beach. Highcliffe Castle beach is dog-friendly all year round.

A family friendly beach close to Mudeford and Christchurch Harbour with plenty to do for all. For those with disabilities or small children there is a beach level carpark, and to keep everyone safe there is a designated bathing area and a seperate area allocated for watersports, all overseen by lifeguards in the summer months. This pretty sand and shingle beach is backed by trees and countryside and if you fancy some fresh local seafood or simply a coffee, ice cream or a cold drink, the beach is home to the excellent Noisy Lobster, serving breakfast, lunch and supper all year round.

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!

Great location for walking straight from property into forest and only a short drive to the stunning south estuary at Key Haven. Plenty of local pubs and restaurants 5 mins from house and would fully recommend ‘the pig’ if you fancy a treat (a cab or short car ride in the dark) Parking outside property is not a problem if you intend to drive out each day (restrictions stop all day parking) however station car park is at the end of the road and RingGo app worked really well when we wanted /needed to leave the car for 24 hours plus. Property would work for small family but not really big enough for 4 adults. It meets all basic needs and was absolutely spotless.

When we arrived the heating was not working. I rang the person who looks after the property. She personally delivered some heaters and arranged for a plumber to attend. He sorted out the problem pretty quickly and we had as much heat as we needed for the week. We were very impressed with the service. We had a great week - thank you.

We did enjoy our stay but on arrival the television didn't work which we reported and were happy with the response. An engineer came Tuesday morning and fixed it. Clearer instructions on it's use would have been appreciated bearing in mind there is a DVD and, as I recall, another device with 2 or 3 remote handsets. If only the TV is used there's no problem but if the previous tenants use the other devices it can make finding the TV channels difficult for those following them.

Rachael’s Cottage in the heart of beautiful Brockenhurst was the perfect holiday home from home! Beautifully presented and extremely comfortable we couldn’t have asked for more! The weather was amazing for the whole week and we made the most of the Forest and coast with our dog Molly, but always most looked forward to returning to our gorgeous cottage to relax with some home cooked food, a warm bath and a log fire! We even hear Tawny Owls hooting from the garden! Thank you for a wonderful stay - we look forward to returning again!

Very enjoyable stay. Suggest slightly more storage space for clothes (chest of drawers and a chair?) in front bedroom. The shower wasn't brilliant. The cottage had a homely feel and the settee in the front room was very comfortable. The garden was a joy to sit in. The TV took some working out but we soon got the hang of it.

I was looking for peace and quiet, somewhere to relax and recharge my batteries due to recent sad circumstances. I found it at Rachel's cottage and as the weather was kind I was able to sit and relax in the pretty garden. Brockenhurst is the ideal place to stay (I know it well) everything is on hand when you leave the car at home, shops, places to eat, the station and beautiful countryside all around you. The donkeys and ponies wandering by the gate was a lovely sight. I visited friends on the I.O.W, such an easy relaxed trip by train and ferry. They then came over for lunch with me at the 'Snakecatcher' pub in the village. Unfortunately my week came to an end rather too quickly but I hope to return perhaps for longer next time.

Brockenhurst is a lovely village with plenty of amenities. The location is really good for going to other parts of Hampshire and Dorset by car, bicycle or train. The cottage is perfect especially for young families. Our daughter and her 10 months old baby we're staying with us for part of the time so it was wonderful to have the baby facilities at the cottage.

There is a major problem with staying at Homelands, which is going home! This home has been so tastefully and thoughtfully decorated, fitted and kitted out, it has been a privilege to stay here. I mean which other holiday let gives a Dyson fan, Sonos sound system, curved Samsung TV with sound bar etc. But the owners have some exquisite taste. the tiles in the cloakroom and bathrooms, the furniture in the main living room-our home will seem quite second rate when we go back! Lighting is obviously a passion of thee owners - stunning. We enjoyed the landscaped garden and even in October having teat and crumpets in the ante afternoon sun. Train noise absolutely not an issue. The Village hall was closed because of CoVid, so can't common if noise at night would be an issue. Beds amazingly comfy and great rain showers, What's not to like. OK if pushed the oven controls are not intuitive but the instructions work! We'll be back!!

We had dinner on hot rock plates, you have to cook your own food -I had fish, prawns and scallops and a side of veg. My husband had steak. By the time the food had cooked side vegetables had gone cold. This pub had a more varied menu for lunchtime. Friendly staff.

Britannia Thai is a fantastic little restaurant within brockenhurst village. They offer both dine in and takeaway lunch and dinner services. The welcome on entering the restaurant is warm and genuine. The standard of food they provide is excellent and portion sizing is very generous. We can highly recommend the chicken satay and chicken Pad Thai noodles. Overall they provide fantastic value food. Definitely not to be missed when in brockenhurst.

We went to this pub for the Sunday Roast which was a great disappointment and not cheap. The vegetables were virtually inedible, a knife would not cut through them and the green beans had barely seen the water. The waiter knew nothing about the wines, there was no atmosphere and the service not good. When we complained they offered us more vegetables which we declined and eventually they deducted 20% off the main meals.

Busy pub with really good covered outdoor eating area, appeared that dogs were welcome. Separate outdoor garden area for just drinking. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good, I had duck which came very pink so do say if you want it cooked through. Husband had fish and chips which was a plateful!.

This was a VERY disappointing evening out. Having looked at the menu before we went some of us wanted pizza.......when we arrived the pizza oven was broken so no pizza available. In addition the 2 starters on the kids menu were garlic bread and vegetable sticks - with no pizza oven there was no garlic bread so vegetables the only option. We got put at a table that was wobbly so had to move. The cesar salad was also poor - dry chicken and missing several elements you would normally expect for a cesar salad. All in all an expensive, disappointing evening. We would not return if in the area again.

'OK I will go with Ribeye but can I please swap the chips for salad'? Response - 'err sorry but the kitchen is quite busy so we can't swap anything...' At this point we wished we hadn't booked...! There are better places!

We ate on one night and went for drinks on another night Was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday evening, but we were still seated at a pleasant, albeit non official dining table We were immediately welcomed and drinks orders taken, in a friendly but efficient manner We were left to choose our food, the children’s menus selected by our two girls (aged 10) were very good and ample, they came with a squash drink and ice cream for pudding I chose the sea bream and mash which was excellent, my partner chos the chicken which was also very good Service throughout was friendly and efficient We returned two days later , just for drinks, I don’t get the feeling that drinkers are their target customers, as the are was much colder and less welcoming than the dining area, I had a real ale which was very pleasant, my partner had a cocktail which was good, the two girls had mock tails, which were nowhere near the standard of our previous visit, no orange in one and didn’t taste as good, girls were a little disappointed This could be down to barman being under training, which to be fair he did explain he was new Overall an excellent venue, we shall be returning

It was our first visit to this venue since the name change. The menu appeared a little more upmarket, unfortunately the service wasn't. They took our credit card when taking our order, but when it came to paying our bill we were told they were busy and we had to find the waiter who took it. In all it took something like 30 minutes trying to pay our bill, not the best way to finish an evening with 3 small children wanting their beds.

Nice restaurant, very nicely decorated, good ambiance and service. We went for a dinner with our kids (3). The food kids menu, was perfect, my wife and daughter order the trout and duck both very good dishes. I ordered the rib eye, the menu says it has 35 days of maturing. The quality was bad, I would even doubt it was steak it almost looked like processed meet. My recommendation stick to the other dishes on the menu and avoid the steak selection. The rest of the experience was very positive.

An established family business in Brockenhurst, Cyclexperience has bicycles and electric bikes available to buy for all levels and skill sets, with hire centres nearby. They also host a number of competitive mountain bike events and off road adventure races both locally and nationally for more competitive cyclists, not to mention workshops at their stores to keep your bike in good health.
Very helpful staff. The whole booking experience was so easy and the bike riding in the forest was truly a special memory we will treasure. My legs were so worn out the following day I went for an electric bike which was awesome!

We had a fantastic day, the weather was good, the bikes were good, the maps were good, the signposting was good. We spent 6 hours out and about and 75% was off road, those bits on road were quiet. Would recommend this to everyone as there were routes suitable for all abilities.

We are experienced riders and my daughter and I booked In advance to go on a 2 hr hack . It was easy to arrange Via email with Trudy the owner beforehand . We filled out a registration form which asked about our riding ability on arrival and then We were off . We had two sensible horses and our guide Hannah was lovely . We thoroughly enjoyed our hack through some beautiful countryside and saw lots of ponies and foals . Great afternoon Thankyou Ford farm stables , we will be back I’m sure .

A beautiful shingle beach with pretty painted beach huts, plenty of parking, and excellent coastal walks along Hurst spit to Hurst Castle with clear views of the Isle of Wight and needles. The superb Raft Rocks Restaurant is worth a visit with its Art deco style and roof terrace. You can also walk across the wildlife marshes to Keyhaven harbour and (in season) take the boat to Hurst Castle or the Isle of Wight.
Lovely sea walk within 15 minutes of the cottage.

Milford on Sea is a very quintessential English village which has retained all its charm. The seafront is a delight to stroll along and The Needles Eye Cafe produces lovely coffee and lunches which is well worth a visit. A walk around Sturt Pond is also enjoyable and through to the village.

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.
A pleasant walk along the cliff top and along the beach. There was less cliff than last time we went to the New Forest.

Highcliffe Beach

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.
To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

A picturesque, tree-lined beach of shingle, and sand at low tide. Good facilities on the cliff top including an excellent tea room, public toilets, baby change and a children’s play area in the Castle gardens. Plenty of parking and sloping access down to the beach. Highcliffe Castle beach is dog-friendly all year round.

A family friendly beach close to Mudeford and Christchurch Harbour with plenty to do for all. For those with disabilities or small children there is a beach level carpark, and to keep everyone safe there is a designated bathing area and a seperate area allocated for watersports, all overseen by lifeguards in the summer months. This pretty sand and shingle beach is backed by trees and countryside and if you fancy some fresh local seafood or simply a coffee, ice cream or a cold drink, the beach is home to the excellent Noisy Lobster, serving breakfast, lunch and supper all year round.

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!
