D.Day 75 commemorations will be widespread across Portsmouth this June with a large number of events both in the dockyard and on the common. No6 Cinema is also keen to pay homage to those who took part in the D.Day landings by hosting two screenings and two talks.
Nick Hewitt, NMRN's Head of Exhibitions and Collections, will be giving a special talk about the museum's extraordinary D-Day survivor, LCT 7074: the last of around 800 Landing Craft (Tank) which took part in the D-Day landings. Rescued by NMRN in 2014, the ship is now at the centre of an exciting £6 million project, which will see her restored to her 1944 configuration, relocated to the D-Day Story in Southsea Common, and opened to the public.
The second talk will be before the first of two films, The True Glory (1945). We are delighted to welcome Dr Toby Haggith, senior curator and film historian from The Imperial War Museum to introduce it. It a documentary account of the allied invasion of Europe during World War II compiled from the footage shot by nearly one thousand four hundred cameramen. It opens as the assembled Allied forces plan and train for the D-Day invasion at bases in Great Britain, and covers all of the major events of the war in Europe, from the Normandy landings, to the fall of Berlin. d. Loyal regulars will be aware that we have had a few technical issues with some of our screenings recently. We have been working to resolve these, and have been pleased that our most recent showings, including lengthy films like Dune: Part 2 and Apocalypse Now, have worked okay. But we feel it’s unfair on you to be crossing our fingers and hoping, we’d rather get things sorted properly.

We will return on Friday 10th May with the classic 1966 Batman:The Movie.

Keep an eye on the No.6 website and newsletter for more information. Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding.
