Emsworth & Hayling Island
Family fun by the beach huts
Hayling Island
Emsworth is popular with sailors, artists and naturalists. Located on the edge of Chichester harbour, it has two tidal millponds and stunning waterside views, making it an attractive place to visit.
The small town retains an old world charm and has several architectural styles. It’s a great place to walk and browse, with interesting antique shops as well as several independent food shops.
Emsworth used to be famous for its shipbuilding and its oyster industry and still has several shipwrights and chandleries. The town’s oyster production is no more but you can still follow the Oyster Trail, a historic walk starting at the Emsworth Museum.
Anyone visiting Emsworth will find a good selection of restaurants, pubs and cafés to choose from. Restaurants such as 36 on the Quay, overlooking the harbour, and Fat Olives, in a former fisherman’s cottage, have enviable reputations, but there are plenty more welcoming hostelries to choose from.
Nearby Hayling Island is popular with families looking for a traditional day out at the seaside, together with watersport enthusiasts, cyclists and walkers.
