About
Over 300 years of warm welcomes have greeted patrons to The Hunters Inn and today it is no different. The perfect traditional independent village pub offering a hearty main or a light bite. We pride ourselves on providing quality hospitality and delicious fayre that represents excellent value for money. Family and dog friendly, we have excellent wheelchair accessibility, plenty of carparking and a huge garden with play equipment to keep the children entertained. In winter months you can settle down to a log fire crackling in the grate and enjoy a fireside pint amongst friends.
Our menu consists of pub classics, daily specials and naughty but nice puddings, including our "rainbow sparkles" ice-cream sundae named after our very special resident "rainbow" horse.
History:
Original parts of the building have been standing here for over 300 years, serving as an Ale House to the locals and a Coaching Inn to the weary travellers who journeyed from Portsmouth to London. Back in the day The Hunters Inn often delivered beer to the locals working on the farmlands that surround the pub.
It is known that in the 1700s those same farmlands were acquired by two of Swanmore's Greatest Hunters - you will find their story inside the Menu so come and pay us a visit and read all about it.
A lounge bar was added to entice the farmworkers wives and the local gentry and later a dance hall making it the place to be on a Saturday night.
The reputation of The Hunters Inn spread far and wide with regular coach loads arriving from Portsmouth, especially during the war years when the sailors rather exuberantly celebrated therein causing the Pub to lose its licence for a short period!
Post war years the Pub gained an excellent reputation for good home cooked style meals and was known as a destination pub for many city dwellers needing "run out in the car" to a rural venue.
Oh.....and no old pub can get away without having its own ghost now can it? The Hunters is no exception - it’s well known that a young lady, murdered by her jealous sister walks the passageways.
