Watch in whizzpopping wonder as the wonderful world of beloved children's author Roald Dahl is explored through science. Expect marvellous mayhem and splendiferous science!

Ever wondered whether James' peach could actually fly? Do you ponder over whether George actually is a genius scientist? And do you deliberate over just how topsy turvey the Twits could really be? Then join us for Science Explained: The Science of Roald Dahl! Perfect for those that love Roald Dahl and a great introduction for those who haven't discovered the books yet, BBC Bitesize science presenter Jon Chase will delve into the whoopsy waffling worlds of Roald Dahl and bring them to life through science. We can't wait!

Your Science Explained ticket includes:

  • Hosted talk with special guest speaker Jon Chase in the Planetarium at 6pm
  • Opportunity to purchase drinks and snacks from the cafe


***Please note that the exhibition floors will not be open during this event. Doors to the Science Centre will open at 5:15pm for the chance to purchase drinks and snacks. The talk will begin at 6pm.***

About Jon Chase

Jon Chase is a freelance science communicator and author. Having completed an honours degree in Aerospace Engineering he then gained a BSc in Science and Science Fiction and a Masters degree in Communicating Science. Jon was also an associate lecturer at the University of Glamorgan for a year following his graduation.

Jon's presenting work includes CBBC Space Hoppers, Street Science for the Open University, three science programmes for BBC Learning as well as YouTube science channels such as BritLab (formerly Head Squeeze).

Are you curious about the world of science? Do you have questions that only an expert can help with? Science Explained might just have the answer!

Welcome to a science event like no other. Special guest speakers will delve into topics in a light-hearted look at some of science’s most intriguing questions. Do aliens really exist? Is time travel possible? What makes a serial killer? The topic of the event will be determined by who the guest speaker is. This will be announced in advance of each event.

Accessibility information for Science Explained

The Science Centre is completely open plan. There are doors inside the public areas to access the toilets and the Planetarium. The Planetarium is accessible so everyone can have a special experience here. If you have a wheelchair, we have spaces for you to sit with seats for your family and friends. The stairs have lights to make them easy to see.
