Nestled on the outskirts of Southampton, Itchen Valley is the perfect family escape from the hustle bustle of the city, with tranquil woodland walks through enchanting forest and six play areas inspired by nature.
Itchen Valley Country Park is set in 440 acres of beautiful water meadows, woodland and Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Situated beside the River Itchen, the park has been recognised with 16 Green Flag Awards®
Eating at Itchen
Fuel your adventure with a hot drink or light bite, freshly prepared from our onsite Woodland Café. With something for every taste, the café offers alternative milks, and a small range of gluten and dairy-free foods.
The Woodland Café can fill up quickly on busy days, but the park has plenty of covered outdoor seating and space to enjoy a picnic on the field during summer days.
Itchen Valley is conscious of their environmental impact, so food and drink is served in compostable, plant-based tableware. If you can, bring your own reusable cup and take advantage of a 30p discount on your hot drink!
Well behaved dogs are allowed in the café on a short lead, tasty treats for your furry companion are also available to buy, so no-one misses out!
Play Areas at Itchen Valley Country Park
Children can start their nature adventure in one of our six play areas. Designed for a range of ages and abilities, under 8’s can explore The Den- situated behind the Woodland Café. Older children can challenge themselves to jump, climber and climb in The Warren before adventuring further into the woods to build a den at The Drey. Let their imaginations run wild!
Connect the play areas by following the fully accessible Family Trail, made up of a series of beautifully crafted, wooden sculptures for children to enjoy.
Events/Activities:
Itchen Valley hosts regular activities, themed activity trails, and events throughout the year. Visit the park’s website or social media pages to discover all that Itchen Valley has to offer.
Trails:
With over 5km of surfaced pathways, Itchen Valley is accessible for everyone. Meander along the Family Trail, or head out further on the Nature Trail to catch a glimpse of local wildlife, flora and fauna. Dogs are welcome at Itchen Valley Country Park and may be let off the lead on all parts of High Field. Leads must be used on all trails.

The UK’s No.1 Tree Top Adventure is at Itchen Valley Country Park. Take to the trees and speed down zip slides. They’re part of an exciting course of rope bridges, Tarzan swings and crossings; all set high above the forest floor.
