Take an unbelievably 'real' journey through time and come face to face with fascinating artefacts and historic ships that helped shape British history. With six landmark attractions, there really is something for everyone.
Discover more about Admiral Lord Nelson, Henry VIII, World War Veterans and Portsmouth Dockyard workers. Learn about life on board some of the world's most famous warships ever built, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860 and the Mary Rose. See, touch and smell the history of the Royal Navy at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, one of the UK's leading maritime museums and complete the story by testing your own skill, bravery and brain power on the action-packed high seas adventure that is Action Stations. Take a 45 minute tour around Portsmouth Harbour aboard one of the modern and comfortable boats and see the ships of the modern Royal Navy fleet in port.
It has been over three years since the Mary Rose Ship Hall closed its doors to visitors and work began on a £35million heritage project to build an internationally-renowned new Museum, bringing the hull of the ship together once more with many of the 19,000 artefacts that were raised with her from the seabed in 1982 and complete the conservation of the ship.
When the new Museum opens on 31st May 2013, visitors will see the ship for the first time with its preserving sprays switched off, through windows into a 'hotbox', as up to 100 tons of water is removed from the timbers. Artefacts displayed in mirror-image context galleries running the length of the ship will give a sense of what the decks would have looked like moments before Mary Rose sank and six themed galleries will tell the personal stories and working lives of the crew on board.
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard hosts a variety of events throughout the year that are enjoyed by young and old alike.
‘All Attraction’ tickets offer entry to HMS Victory & National Museum of the Royal Navy, HMS Warrior 1860, Action Stations and include a FREE boat tour of Portsmouth Harbour and the Mary Rose Story. An upgraded ticket to include entrance to the new Mary Rose Museum when it opens is also available to buy now. Single tickets to visit just one of the attractions are also available.
UK tax payers can choose to make a 'Gift Aid' donation when purchasing their ticket. Please note that Historic Dockyard tickets may not be valid for special events such as the Victorian Festival of Christmas, please check before you visit.
