About
The Christmas lights and decorations for Lyndhurst are purchased, maintained, repaired, put up and taken down by a group of volunteers from the community who call themselvesThe Lyndhurst Village Lights Committee.
The funding for this annual activity (which takes months of preparation and organisation by the committee throughout the year) is raised by donations provided by local shops and businesses and through fund raising events for villagers and local residents. This is purely a community project that receives no funding (but plenty of support from) the New Forest District Council and the Hampshire County Council.
The Christmas lights and decorations are put up at Christmas, and in the summer, bunting, flowers and other decorations are put up to make Lyndhurst look its very best for the benefit of all in the local community and for visitors alike creating a pleasant atmosphere that everyone enjoys.
Every year, the biggest event of all is held on a Saturday in December. The Lyndhurst Christmas Fun Day was inspired by children but is fun for all the family. Activities go on throughoutthe day, shops and business staff all dress up, goodies and treats can be found within. Father Christmas is delivered by the local fire brigade and the day finishes with a good old fashioned sing song. If a carol service and hot mulled wine doesn't get you into the spirit of Christmas, then we need to do a better job!
