Spring into March with our top picks on what’s happening in Hampshire this month from Easter treats and trails to Mother’s Day events and plenty of spring things in between.


Crown and Coronation light and sound show at Winchester Cathedral

4 – 8 March 2024

Another spectacular sound and light show will be coming to Winchester Cathedral at the beginning of the month. The collaboration between Historic Royal Palaces and Luxmuralis will showcase coronation ceremonies and the Crown Jewels through splendid imagery, encompassing the reigns of some of the most famous English monarchs including William the Conqueror, Elizabeth I, and Queen Victoria.


Zog and the Flying Doctors at Theatre Royal Winchester

8 – 10 March 2024

On the week of World Book Day, the lovable and goodhearted dragon Zog will be landing at the Theatre Royal Winchester with his flying doctor crew in this charming theatre adaptation of the much-loved book by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler.

Also showing at the Theatre Royal Winchester in March are Dom Joly: The Conspiracy Tour on 6 March, Science Museum: The Live Stage Show on 17 March, and The Gruffalo's Child on 23 and 24 March.


Mother’s Day events

9 – 10 March 2024

Mother’s Day 2024 is on Sunday 10 March and Exbury Gardens is sure to burst into glorious spring colour when it reopens just in time for Mother’s Day with half price entry for mums.

Stansted House has free admission for all Mothers on Sunday 10 March, and in celebration of International Women's Day and Mother's Day, Queen Elizabeth Country Park is holding a Women's Health and Wellbeing Day on Saturday 9 March 2024.

New Forest Activities also has a special Mother's Day Paddle to the Pub on Sunday 10 March 2024.


Boom & Bloom at Winchester Science Centre

16 March – 15 April 2024

Flower Power is back at Winchester Science Centre with Boom & Bloom returning this March featuring nature adventures in Bio:Space, minibeasts, a live bubble science show, and an Eggs-travaganza Easter Hunt.


An Egg-cellent Spring at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens

16 March – 14 April 2024

Sir Harold Hillier Gardens is glorious in the spring and as well as all the gorgeous plants to enjoy in the gardens, there will be a special self-guided Easter trail through the blossoming flowers.


80s Live! at New Theatre Royal Portsmouth

16 March 2024

Take it back to the 80s with 80s Live! At New Theatre Royal on 16 March as London's West End 80s party show hits Portsmouth.

Pull up your leg warmers and get ready to jitterbug to chart-topping anthems from Wham!, The Weather Girls, Culture Club, Rick Astley, Madonna, Duran Duran, and The Human League.

Also showing at New Theatre Royal Portsmouth this month are Macbeth on 21 March, I'm Alive! A Celebration of Celine Dion on 23 March, and The Rocket Man: A Tribute to Elton John on 28 March.


Canoe Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Archery with New Forest Activities

There will be plenty of Easter fun down by the Beaulieu River with New Forest Activities later in the month, with the popular Canoe Easter Egg Hunt promising Easter treats and Easter Archery back on dry land to aim for a coveted Easter egg trophy.


Easter trails at Mottisfont, Hinton Ampner and The Vyne

23 March – 14 April 2024

Easter trails with the National Trust never dis-egg-point and 2024 promises to be as marvellous as ever. At The Vyne near Basingstoke, children will work up an appetite with the athletics-themed trail, experience all the fun of a spring fete with the energetic Easter trail at Mottisfont, and at Hinton Ampner the action continues with challenges and activities suitable for the whole family – all with chocolate egg rewards.


Record-breaking Birds Egg Hunt at Gilbert White's House and Gardens

23 March – 14 April 2024

Learn about nature like the ecologist himself at the bird-themed egg hunt at Gilbert White’s House from 23 March. Young ornithologists can hunt for ten eggs hidden in Gilbert White's Garden and match the birds named on the eggs with the amazing facts given.


Hoppy Easter at Paultons Park

29 March – 14 April 2024

Hop into Easter at Paulton’s Park from the end of March and marvel at the egg-ceptional decorations with colourful giant Easter eggs and bunnies throughout the park. Easter characters Bobtail Bunny and Betty Bunny will be there too and of course there are the 70 wonderful rides and attractions to fill your day with fun.

A brand-new event is arriving at the Watercress Line for Easter weekend the end of the month. Meet the Easter Bunny and enjoy Easter-themed activities across the railway, including Easter sing-a-longs on the trains, Easter activities, and an Easter egg spotter trail.
