Set in the heart of the pretty village of Downton with two great pubs within walking distance is this gorgeous dog-friendly cottage. It's perfect as a bolt hole for two, a small family or friends.

Inside the ancient red bricks is a beautifully renovated and decorated abode in hues of chalky blues, white and pale grey. Expect to find a deep plush sofa for cosy nights in and somewhere to plonk down and relax after a day of adventure out in the forest. There's a really handy ground floor wet room which is perfect for rinsing off muddy paws, and upstairs are two bedrooms – a single and a double bed, both beautifully dressed in crisp linens.

Outside is a very pretty archetypal cottage garden that meanders past dappled trees to the surrounding fields and countryside. Pull up a chair to enjoy a morning coffee or sit with a glass of your favourite tipple and watch the sun go down.
