Hampshire's Celebrity Chefs

Hampshire restaurants have their fair share of celebrity chefs too. Raymond Blanc’s Brasserie Blanc in Winchester is well known for its fine French cuisine while writer and broadcaster Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has opened another of his River Cottage restaurants in the city.

Respected chef Angela Hartnett has also been a judge on the Great British Menu TV series. Her Hartnett, Holder & Co restaurant at the prestigious Lime Wood Hotel near Lyndhurst serves locally sourced, seasonal English dishes with an Italian twist, using an approach described as ‘fun dining, not fine dining’.

Nearby, at The Pig, near Brockenhurst, James Golding oversees a menu of simple, British food, inspired by produce picked from the hotels own kitchen garden and locally sourced fish and meat.

James Martin, star of Ready Steady Cook, Saturday Kitchen and many other TV programmes, has close links to Hampshire. James worked as a pastry chef at the Chewton Glen Hotel in the New Forest early in his career and later opened the famous Hotel and Bistro du Vin in Winchester as head chef.
