Hampshire provides the perfect launch-pad for day trips to some great destinations and attractions in neighbouring counties. If you are looking for something to do further afield why not consider some of the following.

Stonehenge & Wiltshire

World famous UNESCO World Heritage site Stonehenge is only just over the Hampshire border in neighbouring Wiltshire. Nearby Salisbury with its famous Cathedral and attractive historic centre is also well worth a visit.

Sussex

The Sussex county town of Chichester is only 20mins from Portsmouth and well worth a visit for its famous Chichester Cathedral and Chichester Festival Theatre. There’s plenty of history to be found nearby at Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens and the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum. If historic motorsport is your thing, then head to Goodwood for the annual Festival of Speed (July) and Revival (September) events to see millions of pounds worth of cars driven by famous drivers compete against one another.

Jurassic Coast & Dorset

Dorset, to the West, with its UNESCO Jurassic Coast provides a great opportunity for long walks and fossil hunting. Bournemouth is a great place to go for a traditional British beach experience. Offering some of the warmest sea temperatures, long sandy beaches and an annual Air Festival this is an appealing place on sunny days.

Isle of Wight

If you are looking for a day trip with a difference why not head across to the The Isle of Wight.  This pocket-sized version of England is a short ferry ride from Southampton, Portsmouth or Lymington and is a renowned holiday island that was favoured by Queen Victoria in the 19th century. It has plenty of historic and family attractions, plus the Isle of Wight Festival featuring some of the world’s leading bands each June.

Windsor Castle & Berkshire

Berkshire is found to the north of Hampshire and here you will find Royal Windsor with Windsor Castle, one of the famous homes of the Royal Family. Legoland is nearby and provides a great family day-out.

London

Hampshire is also only a short distance from London, the world’s most famous city. Getting to this city and back couldn’t be easier with frequent trains from Winchester and many other Hampshire destinations in less than one hour.
