About
Yes, making paper – out of mushrooms. Few people know that wonderful craft paper of diverse natural colours can be made from many fungi species, especially tough and inedible bracket fungi.
After initially identifying and collecting suitable fungi in the field (or rather, in the woods), expert forager Fergus Drennan will bring together guests to create a hands-on exploration of the techniques required to produce different grades of mushroom paper. It can be made as thin as tissue paper, smooth and ideal for use in a photocopier, or thick enough to make boxes.
After creating unique papers, you will create a mushroom paper boxes that can be used to package small gifts. As a by-product of the paper-making process, the workshop will also make a delicious medicinal mushroom soup. Paper takes a couple of days to dry in a press for best results. Your individually crafted pieces will be posted to you once fully dried.
This course is suitable for anyone, especially artists, those fascinated by fungi, forest school teachers, paper makers, nature lovers, and those interested in sustainability.
Wild food experimentalist, forager, the ever-curious Fergus Drennan, aka Fergus The Forager, has been gathering and learning about wild plants, seaweeds, and fungi for over 40 years. Through much creative and experimental exploration he has continued his foraging practice, not only as a means to understand and to discover the practical relevance that foraging has in the modern developed world, but also in terms of what it means to be an environmentally conscious human in relation to the natural world.
Fergus has a huge amount of wild food knowledge to share, and an array of imaginative ways of doing so. After even only an afternoon with him, the natural world around you will never look the same again.
