About
Once again Sandham Memorial Chapel's welcome a selection of the artists from Made in the Hood as part of the 2017 Hampshire Open Studio season.
Free entry. Usual entry to the chapel.
The 14 members of this lively group are based around the villages of North Hampshire, and span a variety of media, from painting to ceramics and glass, jewellery to photography.
Many of the artists exhibit independently, but enjoy coming together for Hampshire Open Studios, an annual, ten day festival celebrating Hampshire creativity.
A taste of the work on display at Sandham this year:
Simon Ball's prize-winning photography captures his love of landscape, especially our beautiful mountain and coastal scenery. Simon can be found trekking the Glens in February to catch the light and clear blue skies.
Pearl Hailstone is a well-known local artist, whose colourful acrylic and oil paintings capture the mood of changing seasons in lowland scenery, often from painting trips to Norfolk and the South West.
Glass artist Julie Smith has also been inspired by water this year, with a range of beautiful kiln-formed glass objects drawing inspiration from the leaves and twigs floating down the local stream in Headley.
Ceramics are well represented in the group, in all forms from small, hand held objects to wall plaques and larger, sculptural pieces, some suitable for the garden.
Piet van den Beuken's modern take on the classic Delft 'blue and white' of her homeland is shown in her popular hanging decorations, tiles and tableware.
Helen Williams takes inspiration from middle-eastern art, admiring the simplicity and use of repetitive shapes. The intricate patterns of Iznik Tiles informed her decorated garden spheres.
