For centuries the New Forest's main market town, with a charter dating back to 1226, Ringwood stands on the western edge of the New Forest at a crossing point of the River Avon.
Ringwood still has a lively Wednesday morning street market and has remained a delightful, unspoilt historic town with both quaint and modern shops, street entertainment, restaurants, pubs and cafes. There are so many things to do in Ringwood and the town makes an excellent base for further exploration of the New Forest.
From the town, take a wander down West Street to view the River Avon from the old three-arched stone bridge or enjoy a stroll around Jubilee Garden. Ringwood is well placed on the Avon Valley Path, a 34-mile long-distance walking route that takes you from the Cathedral city of Salisbury all the way to Christchurch Priory on the South Coast.
There are plenty of things to do nearby Ringwood, including Liberty's Owl Raptor and Reptile Centre and Blashford Lakes Wildlife Reserve.
