Butser Ancient Farm, Hampshire will once again be opening its prehistoric gates for the annual Beltain festival, where visitors can bask in the glow of a great burning wickerman. The tradition finds its roots in ancient times, when a giant man was burnt in the spring to welcome in the warmer months and persuade the gods to kindly provide a fruitful harvest. Beltain at Butser is a family friendly event with live music, local ales, mead, scrumptious food and many ancient traditions to entertain the masses.
Expect a pleasant afternoon/evening of entertainment and refreshments culminating with the burning of the giant Wicker Man at dusk. Gates to the festival open at 4.30pm. The event finishes at 10pm.
Please be aware that it will be dark when returning to your car, we suggest you bring a torch. Please bring enough cash with you for the night. There are no cash points on site. The Wickerman is lit at dusk (normally around 9pm)
Please note that the farm will be closed to public visitors on Sat 30th April and Sun 1st May. It will reopen for general visitors on Mon 2nd May.
