About
September in Burley can mean only one thing, The Woodlanders are back!
The Woodies as they are affectionately known are a group of artists and craftworkers, many of whom are professional, who come together once a year to exhibit at the village hall in Burley. Most are from the New Forest and surrounding area and are brought together by Suzan Houching, local Burley artist whose wonderful quirky work always makes you smile.
Over the 29 years they have been together friends have come and gone giving the exhibitions fresh ideas and a constantly changing image and this year features the contemporary work of Tony Clegg for the first time. The forest in all its glory is featured in the works of artists Brenda Farrell, Margaret Plant and Danny Byrne who also captures the dappled sunshine on sheltering ponies brilliantly. Animals and birds are expertly portrayed by Sarah-Lyn Sibley, Linda Easter and Daphne Ellman, all bringing their own take on the subject and working in a variety of mediums. Artists Anne Toase and Christine Coney will be showing their unique contemporary work across a variety of subjects whilst Anne will also be exhibiting her jewellery.
Ceramics are covered by Penny Stevens and Carole Dickson. Penny can be see demonstrating on the potter's wheel at times during the exhibition. Whilst Nigel Chant, Paul Humphriss, Peter Haydon and a few other members of the New Forest Woodcarvers will be displaying their excellent skills in carving and turning wood into decorative and functional objects.
Enjoy looking at the work, watching the demonstrations and refreshing yourselves with tea and cake. There is a small entrance fee of 50p from which we support Diabetes UK.
