About
Winchester City Festival Choir is celebrating its Centenary by commissioning local composer Oliver Tarney to create a new work with Lucia Quinault developing the script. Oliver has won over the choir with his with beautiful contemporary harmonies which are a joy to sing. It is exciting to be involved in a World Premiere, and to contribute to Oliver's national and international reputation. On Wednesday Oliver and Lucia came to the choir to present our conductor, Paul du Plessis-Smith with the final score.
We are singing with three top flight soloists and a 28 piece professional orchestra. Haydn's 'Creation' is a tremendous, soaring celebration of the biblical creation story, composed in a time and place where it was a universally accepted truth.
Our new, dynamic musical director Paul du Plessis-Smith, a professional singer and educator says that he wants the choir to embrace everyone who wants to sing the masterpieces of the classical choral repertoire and be challenged by taking on new works by the finest contemporary composers. Paul will conduct us on 28th January in his first major concert with us, a triple celebration!
