Four guests and two lucky pups can fully immerse themselves in a slice of New Forest life at Little Mallard in East Boldre. This single-story home sits just steps from open forest and heather-laden heathlands, where it’s almost impossible not to shift down a gear. Time moves at a gentler rhythm here, with the National Park’s famous ponies, deer, birds, and grazing cattle that roam freely across the landscape becoming your neighbours.
Inside, the interiors are filled with personality and quality, with furnishings chosen as much for comfort as style. The lounge features a wood burner for those magically frosty months, while sunnier days call for the garden rooms, where a Scandi leather suite makes the perfect reading spot with a coffee after a walk. There are two bedrooms – one with a king-size bed, and the second with zip-link beds set as another king or a twin.
French doors from the lounge and garden room lead on to the patio, where morning cuppas and dining into the night are accompanied only by birdsong and twit-twoo-ing of owls. Beyond, the garden is private, fully enclosed and planted with spring and summer blooms, leafy greens and pretty shrubs.
