About
This captivating cottage is close to the village of Downton on the eastern fringe of the New Forest and the Dorset border. The cottage sits at the end of a private road in historic grounds that once formed part of Trafalgar Park, an estate gifted to Lord Nelson’s family following his victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.
Sleeping 8 guests plus a dog or two, the holiday home has been carefully curated to ensure all your creature comforts are taken care of. You’ll enjoy how well the inside flows with the outside, which comes alive with colour in the summer months, offering views of a walled cut flower garden.
The ground floor features a kitchen, dining area, and lounge with a wood burner, as well as a utility room, a snug with another wood burner, and a king-size double bedroom. There are two additional bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor, and finally a showpiece master en-suite with a dressing area and seriously pretty views on the top floor.
The grounds surrounding the cottage beg to be explored. The park’s Standlynch Chapel is just across from the cottage, and a few minutes wander takes you to a millpond for a spot of wild swimming and sublime walks along the banks of the Avon River, passing water meadows, wild otters and brightly coloured kingfishers along the way.
