About
Self-discovery, a student-led art and photography exhibition, opens to the public on Monday 9 February from 2pm, with a special celebration event from 5–7pm, at Chapel Road, Southampton, SO14 1AQ. It will also be open to the public the following morning until 12pm.
Curated and created by HNC and HND students from Southampton College, Self-discovery brings together a dynamic mix of visual art and photography exploring self-identity in a contemporary world. The exhibition offers a powerful and diverse range of perspectives on culture and community in Southampton, gender identity, and the role of contemporary art in an age of mass reproduction.
Working across a variety of mediums, the exhibiting artists challenge how identity is formed, represented, and shared—both personally and collectively. From intimate photographic works to experimental mixed-media pieces, the exhibition reflects the voices of emerging creatives responding to the world around them with honesty, curiosity, and ambition.
A selection of limited-edition print works will be available for purchase, with all proceeds donated to St Mary's Church.
The celebration event (5–7pm), where The Mayor will be in attendance, offers visitors the opportunity to meet the artists, and enjoy the art in a beautiful space.
