Over the centuries there have been more than 40 pubs and inns in the town as well as malthouses and breweries to support them. During this walk you’ll learn why there were so many, where they were and what happened to them.

Petersfield's Markets and Shops - Then and Now
This walk starts in The Market Square and looks at how it has altered since its early days. It then proceeds along the High Street and beyond to explore how the shop fronts, buildings and local businesses have changed from Victorian times to the present day but also examines what has remained the same. This walk starts at 2.30pm and meets outside Petersfield Library.
Regency Walk
In Jane Austen’s 200th commemorative year and as part of Regency Week we’ll take you back to Petersfield during the Regency period. We do not know if Jane Austen ever visited Petersfield but her brother, Henry was a partner in a bank in the town. During this walk you will learn why Petersfield was such a prosperous town at this time, look at the buildings that still survive and hear stories of the town’s celebrities. This walk starts at 2.30pm and meets outside Petersfield Library.
The Archaeology of Petersfield
This walk around the ancient barrows cemetery on Petersfield Heath will put Petersfield’s barrows in the context of the Bronze Age period and discuss the recent excavations which have taken place as part of the ‘People of the Heath’ project. This walk starts at 2:30pm and meets at the Car Park on Sussex Road. This walk is FREE, but booking is essential.
Tickets are £5 (£4 for members and volunteers) unless otherwise stated and should be bought in advance from the Petersfield Museum.
