About
Dozens of artists from the New Forest and beyond are featured in an inaugural Arts Prize exhibition at Palais des Vaches art gallery in Exbury.
Billed as an extraordinary showcase of contemporary work, the show features over 65 selected works inspired by the theme of observation.
The highly anticipated exhibition will run until Sunday, 26th July 2026, and will showcase a range of drawings, paintings, printmaking, and mixed-media entries.
Altogether, around 300 works were submitted to the contest by both professional and amateur artists from across the south of England.
Competition organiser and artist Stewart Beckett said: "We received a very broad spectrum of work from as far away as London, Brighton, Devon, and Poole. The judges were very impressed with the quality of work submitted in the inaugural year - the final exhibition features a wide range of styles and mediums from landscapes and seascapes to abstracts, wildlife images, textural studies and portraits."
First prize (the Palais Arts Prize) was presented to Paul Lloyd for Sacred Union; second prize (The Caroline de Rothschild Award) was presented to Michael Jolly for St Mark's Square; and third prize (The Anthony Lawrence Award) was presented to Jack Metcalf for Westcliff Beach at Noon.
Stewart added: "The Palais Art Prize exhibition is not only a celebration of immense artistic talent but also a fantastic opportunity for visitors and collectors to acquire high-quality, original artwork. With a wide selection of styles and mediums on display, there is something to suit every taste and budget."
The Palais Awards Prize Exhibition is at Palais des Vaches Art Gallery in Exbury until Saturday 26th July. Admission is free.
