As part of Regency week (18th June - 23rd June, 2017), Chawton House Library will be putting on daily events, to include the following:
Meet the Shire Horses
Sunday 18th, 11.00. Meet the beautiful Chawton House Library shire horses, who will be visiting Chawton village green. (Free)
Garden Tour
Sunday 18th, 2.30 - 5. Join our Garden Manager, Andrew Bentley, on a walk around the gardens to find out about the designs, particular plants, natural history and future plans for the gardens at Chawton House Library. Followed by a cream tea. (adults £10; under 16s £7)
Exhibition Tours
Monday 19th, Wednesday 21st, and Friday 23rd, 10.30 - 12.30. Join our Executive Director, Dr Gillian Dow, for an exclusive tour of the 'Fickle Fortunes: Jane Austen and Germaine de Staël 1817-2017' exhibition at Chawton House Library. Followed by a cream tea. (adults £15; under 16s £8.50)
Embroidery Workshops
Tuesday 20th, Thursday 22nd, 10.30-12.00. Additional workshop if sufficient demad 12.30-2.00. Enjoy a unique opportunity, led by Royal School of Needlework graduate Charlotte Bailey, to get hands on with history and learn how to embroider a handkerchief using rare eighteenth-century patterns from the long-running eighteenth-century monthly Lady's Magazine. (£25 including materials and refreshments)
Evening Lecture
Wednesday 21st, 6.30-8. Join us for drinks and canapés, followed by an evening lecture by Dr Paula Byrne, entitled 'Comic Muse: How Jane Austen loved the theatre and why she works in Hollywood.' (adults £11; students/friends £8.50)
