Workshop: Sew your own Regency Gown at Jane Austen's House

In this fun and friendly workshop you will make your own Empire-waist, Regency-style gown in a weekend! All under the guidance of super stitchers Alice and Ginny.

Bring along your own fabric to make your dream dress! A printed cotton or silk would work well – you could even use a duvet cover or vintage tablecloth! Trimmings and fastenings will be provided if you need them.

Please bring your own small sewing kit and sewing machine if possible. If not, there will be some available to borrow – please contact Jane Austen's House on booking to reserve one.

A full list of what to bring with you will be provided after booking, including fabric suggestions and measurements of fabric needed.

The workshop will take place in the Learning Centre, in the grounds of Jane Austen's House. Over the three days of the course you will have access to the House and the pretty cottage garden.

The course will begin on Friday afternoon, and then continue over full days on Saturday and Sunday. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided throughout the day to keep you going, and there will also be a 45 minute lunch break each day – bring your own packed lunch to enjoy in the garden or pop over the road to Cassandra's Cup to purchase lunch.

Alice and Ginny run fun, sociable sewing classes and workshops. They are specialists at getting you started with sewing machine skills and core sewing techniques, and will support you on each step of your sewing journey helping you turn your sewing ideas into a reality.

The workshop capacity will be limited to just six people, so you will get lots of one-on-one guidance and help!

This workshop is suitable for those with basic sewing machine skills – knowledge of dressmaking is not necessary!
