The Watercress Line's Diesel Gala returns this summer with three days of intensive running, rare visiting locomotives and the unmistakable atmosphere of diesel power at work. This is one of the most ambitious diesel events ever held on our steeply graded heritage railway, offering enthusiasts and families the chance to experience both classic and modern traction up close.
Headline Visiting Locomotives Class 60 no. 60099 Ben More Assynt — appearing for the first time on any heritage railway and the first Class 60 ever to operate at the Watercress Line. Class 56 no. 56103 — a powerful freight locomotive approaching its 50th year. Class 423 4VEP 3417 "Gordon Pettit" — the only complete 4VEP unit in existence, offering multiple opportunities for passenger rides. Class 31 no. 31210 — returning to traffic after more than three decades. The Class 60 and Class 56 will operate on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July only, making these key days for enthusiasts.
