About
Step back in time this October at The Watercress Line as the iconic locomotive 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley returns for the first time in 19 years. From 8 to 12 October, visitors have the rare opportunity to experience this legendary engine up close, thanks to the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust.
Built in 1937, Sir Nigel Gresley is one of only 35 A4 Pacific locomotives designed for high-speed travel, and it still holds the post-war British steam speed record at 112 mph. Its distinctive streamlined shape is instantly recognisable, sharing its design with the famous Mallard.
A range of exclusive events will celebrate its visit:
Static Footplate Tours (8–9 October): Go behind the scenes with a guided tour of the footplate and controls, perfect for steam enthusiasts and curious visitors alike.
Photography Experience with Nikon (9 October): Capture stunning images of the locomotive with expert guidance in this one-of-a-kind photography session.
Exclusive Dining Experience (10 October): Enjoy fine dining and scenic views on a moving train pulled by this historic engine.
Afternoon Tea Experience (11–12 October): Relax in vintage style with freshly prepared treats served as you journey through the Hampshire countryside.
This special programme also celebrates the enduring connection between Sir Nigel Gresley and his assistant Oliver Bulleid, designer of The Watercress Line's flagship locomotive, Canadian Pacific.
Whether you're a lifelong railway fan or simply looking for a unique day out, this is a rare chance to encounter one of Britain's most celebrated steam locomotives in action.
